About Melnrage

Melnrage is the part of the third largest city of Lithuania - Klaipeda, with port area and resort beaches. The southern part of Melnrage is called Melnrage I, and the northern part where the beaches are - Melnrage II. From the east side Melnrage is surrounded by forest.

Melnrage offers about ten hotels and guest houses for rent, rooms and apartments in the private sector. Rents similar to those in other areas of the city of Klaipeda. A room in a hotel or a guest house costs about 29-50 euros, while in the private sector a room costs 9-10 euros. Cottage rental price ranges from 6 to 29 euros.

Melnrage has several household and food shops. Hotel "Morena" and "Tako baras" have cafés where you can have dinner . There is also a pedestrian and cycling trail, which leads to Giruliai and one of the main seaside resorts in Lithuania - Palanga.

Klaipeda public transport - buses and minibuses - from Melnrage the center can be reached within 10 - 15 minutes.
History

Melnrage name is derived from the neighboring Latvian word "melnais" - black. The second part of the name - the horn - the usual term for lagoon region called the Horn. The settlement is named by local Curonians, who lived here in the Curonian Sea region.

Melnrage became a part of Lithuania after the Second World War. In 1946 it is attributed to the city of Klaipeda.

Sightseeing, Trivia

In February 2007 near Melnrage Baltic Sea threw out a wooden vessel dating XIX-XX centuries, 30m of lenght and 8m of girth.
